A crown that has come off does not always hurt, so people put it off. Please do not wait weeks or months. Decay can set in on the tooth underneath, and the teeth on either side can start to shift into the gap.

If there is enough tooth left, gently rinse the debris out of the crown and try to seat it back on. A thin coating of tooth cement from the pharmacy will hold it for a short while, and in a pinch even toothpaste can. That is a stopgap, not a repair.

Then call us. We would rather re-cement it this week than rebuild it next month. A call also tells us whether you need to come straight over or whether the morning is soon enough.

My crown came off. Can I glue it back myself?

It does not hurt. Do I still need to come in?

Yes, and sooner than you think. The tooth under a crown is not sealed, so decay can start, and the teeth beside the gap can drift. Both make the fix bigger.

How fast can I be seen?

Call and describe what happened. We try to get true emergencies in that same day, and we will tell you honestly if yours can wait until the next opening.

A filling fell out instead. Same advice?

If it is not sensitive, keep off that side when you chew and call the office. A little putty from the pharmacy can hold the space and keep bacteria out until we see you.
