A sealant is a preventive coating placed over those grooves. It keeps decay out of the places a brush cannot reach. We can often clean the grooves first with air abrasion, and that means no drilling and often no anesthetic for a small spot.

The rest is finding things early. Regular checkups help prevent problems from developing at all, and cavities and gum disease can be identified and treated early, before they cause pain or discomfort for your child. For a twenty minute drive, prevention is the part that saves you trips.

What does a sealant do?
